Student Affairs Philosophy

Student affairs gives me a platform to help students grow into the greatest versions of themselves, and it’s where I believe I can best create sustainable impact. By enhancing the college experience for others through the creation of enthusiastic environments, promoting innovative thinking, and a service-oriented mentality, students will be able to effectively navigate their path towards their future. Relationship building is at the foundation of the work that I do, and I believe it is crucial for me to recognize the students and the partners that I work with for who they are in order to put our best craft forward.

Inclusive & Engaging Environments: I want students and co-educators to fully engage in all the work that we do together, and I believe co-creating an environment that we are excited to be a part of will lead to a genuine desire of this goal. I create fruitful environments where full engagement shines through by promoting innovative thinking, the celebration of individuality, and the active creation of a community of care. The creation of engaging environments is important to my craft because it works to ensure that people can feel included and enthusiastic about the service that is being done. I shall always strive to instill a mosaic mindset into my craft, where everyone embraces the differences that come together to form a unique community

Service Above Self: I’ve already enjoyed the collegiate experience, it’s my turn to help elevate the experience for the community around me. Consistent rapport building with students by celebrating who they are as individuals, helping them make meaning of their collegiate journey, and connecting them to ideal experiences are some examples of how I can provide specific support for the students that I work with. Each collegiate story is different, so i will be sure to block a one-size-fits-all mentality with my service. By blending my personal approach to student support, along with the mission/vision of the institution(s) that I serve, I will be able to maximize the support that I am able to give to the students of the community.

Innovative Thinking: I won’t always give students all the answers they seek, but I will gladly present them with the questions that need answering instead. Educators have an important role in helping students realize their greatest potential, and I will gladly serve my community by helping students go beyond their limits. A healthy balance of challenge and support is needed for this to work, which means I'll need to continuously practice identifying what type of energy (positive reinforcement or pushback) is needed in student interactions. I aim to be a trustworthy guide for students through their critical thinking skills and autonomy development.
