

Competencies Overview

I am an educator that has a genuine care for the development of my students, my community, and the lives of those that I support. I am an educator that values the human side that everyone brings to the table, and I believe that seeing the individuality in others is an important aspect of delivering quality work in this field. My professional experiences, along with navigating master’s level coursework, has helped me grow into a more holistic educator, I have been able to unlock new creative avenues for my professional approach, and I have gained an extra dimension of confidence that enhances my leadership capabilities. I am thankful to be a part of something that is bigger/greater than myself, and I am thankful to serve my communities through student affairs.
I aim to be a professional that consistently celebrates the individuality of those around me, and I aim to create a work environment that people are excited to be a part of. My enthusiasm to guide students of diverse backgrounds through their development, my sense of joy/purpose when it comes to enhancing the student experience, and my collective responsibility mentality are at the foundation of the skills that I can bring to the table. The document below is an articulation/reflection on how my experiences have connected with different student affairs competencies. I will be using competencies from ACPA & NASPA, along with NODA’s competencies to help inform how my practice is growing. The Personal and Ethical Foundations competency from ACPA & NASPA, and the Program Delivery & Management competency from NODA are at the core of what influences my craft because of how it relates to the attention to detail that I strive to put out with my work and with myself. This analysis is merely a summary of how four competencies connect to my work, and there are many other ways that my craft can connect to the other competencies that have been established in the field of student affairs.
